this is an announcement for any anonymous stranger to make and exhibit art as anonymous free/libre peer production gift of free culture.

anonymous strangers asked the following question to other anonymous strangers using spy chat mode of omegle in various sessions between august 2011 and may 2013 and collected the texts of the chats of anonymous strangers discussing this question:

“what would your contemporary art project proposal be if you were invited by a curator to participate in a contemporary art exhibition?”

the proposals of anonymous strangers to get inspired and make art as an anonymous stranger are here for you:
./proposals

you are welcome to exhibit any work of art you will make by either getting inspired or directly applying these proposals in the exhibition “contemporary art is for artists”: a peer production exhibition by anonymous strangers, which will take place at BOEM*, vienna between july 25 and august 9, 2013.

all the works will be attributed to “anonymous stranger”, which is a multiple use identity, free to be appropriated by anyone like you. all the works exhibited in this peer production exhibition will be in public domain as free/libre gifts that everyone is free to take away during the finissage on  august 9th, between 18:00-20:00.

if this means anything to you, you are welcome to bring and install your works as anonymous strangers at BOEM* anytime during this peer production exhibition and you are also free to modify the installation of any other work in the space. if you do not prefer to bring and install the work yourself, you can mail it to BOEM* along with any installation instructions, if there are any. you can also e-mail the works in digital format (in free/libre file formats) to anonymousstrangers@httpdot.net

this is a peer production exhibition: any tool, equipment and labor required for installing and exhibiting the works are the responsibility of anonymous strangers. during the exhibition you can use the exhibition space as a studio to produce the works that you will immediately exhibit there, making use of some tools and equipment that will be made available at the exhibition space for anonymous strangers, by anonymous strangers. any other particular requirements for the production and the exhibition of a particular work should also be supplied by the anonymous strangers who would like to make the work using this multiple use identity.

the title of the exhibition “contemporary art is for artists” is a quotation from an anonymous stranger in the omegle spy chat. however the exhibition itself challenges this perception of contemporary art and its dependence on the culture industry by practicing ideas such as peer production, free culture and anonymity of peers in contrast to the myth of authorship.
